Development Officer

Position Description

 

Job summary

The Development Officer is responsible to the Executive Director for managing development strategy and fundraising goals for the EOD Warrior Foundation (EODWF). The Development Officer is responsible for building and executing the development plan, utilizing the donor database and other systems to support the function, and completing administrative duties related to his/her work as assigned.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage EODWF National Development Strategy
  • Works to develop plan to achieve EODWF annual budget goal via the following:
    • Individual fundraising activities, meetings, events, and grant writing support
    • Effective management, engagement and mobilization of community volunteers
    • Maintain and update donor database (Knowledge of Donor Perfect preferred, or other donor database software such as Raiser's Edge, etc.)
  • Generate New Event Fundraising Revenue
  • Manages EODWF’s development strategy for community engagement and serves as external, community fundraising manager.
  • Leads solicitations in support of local area events and community leadership committees with sponsors and ticket buyers.
  • Obtains foundation, and corporate support nationally.
  • Helps draft fundraising solicitations, emails and newsletters for support.
    • Achieve EODWF Annual Fundraising Budget
    • Strives to meet and exceed EODWF fundraising targets through relationship management and engagement of corporations, foundations and community volunteer leaders and groups, and other community-based assets.
      • Support Existing Community Outreach Goals
      • Acts as liaison with community residents, business representatives and community organizations for planning/execution of fundraising events;
      • Represents EODWF at charity fairs and similar community events as needed.
        • Report on Fundraising Progress and Revenue Raised
        • Monitors and reports up progress against objectives
        • Adjusts plans and manages contingency efforts and resources as required.
  • Executes against identified EODWF mission in support of fundraising goals by mobilizing community-based businesses, community leaders, volunteers and other key EODWF stakeholders.
  • Researches potential major gifts, initiates relationships and works to secure to help achieve annual targets for EODWF.
  • Identifies high value relationships to Executive Director and Board of Directors, for further cultivation once established and providing seamless support and constituent relationship management.

Minimum requirements

The Development Officer will have a minimum of 5 years fund development and major gift experience.  The Development Officer will have a minimum of a Bachelors degree, Masters Degree preferred.  Additionally, he/she must be able to communicate in fluent English language and be a legal resident or US Citizen.  Hired applicant will be expected pass a detailed background investigation and to maintain a neat personal appearance at all times.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the Development Officer is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear. The position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Travel

The Development Officer will be asked to travel for events related to the EOD Warrior Foundation, trainings, or other items identified by the Executive Director to maintain proficiency in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.  Up to 50% travel.

 

Work Environment 

The work environment will be at the Development Officer’s home, which will be located in the metro Atlanta area, and other locations for meetings as required by the opportunities and events for the organization.  Reasonable accommodations in the work environment may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

Capabilities / qualities required

  • The Development Officer will have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • The Development Officer has a solid foundation in computer skills to include proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.  Microsoft Publisher experience is a plus.
  • The Development Officer is a problem solver versus problem identifier.
  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques to include event planning, major gift fundraising, grants and campaigns.
  • Team builder and team player.  This person works well with other members of the organization.
