Pilot Program Opportunity

Civic Assets has the opportunity to partner with the Cement Preservation Institute (CPI), the National Park Service and the National Parks Conservancy on a 12 week pilot starting Sept.15.  The pilot will focus on the historic preservation of Alcatraz.  Participants will be housed in the Marin Headlands by the National Park Service; transportation will be provided daily by van and ferry to Alcatraz and back; the $5000. tuition will be paid for; participants will receive a $5000. stipend along with an Americorps 450 hour education award. All training will be conducted and supervised by CPI.  Food and steel toed boots must be provided by the participants.

They are looking to recruit 8 post 9-11 veterans who are interested in working in concrete preservation on historic sites.  Each veteran must be physically and mentally able to do hard work all day long.  The 12 weeks will be spent learning about, planning, managing, and implementing concrete preservation projects while enjoying an immersive, once in a lifetime experience.  Participants will interact with a wide variety of experts including archaeologists, conservationists, engineers, industry experts, material and equipment experts, industry experts and potential future employers among others. This experience can lead to a good paying job in the Trades or help with application to college or vocational school. To learn more visit their website at www.cpi-foundation.org.

Civic Assets will provide all of the wrap around services needed by the veteran team.  If you know of interested veterans, please have them contact Joanna Lennon at Joanna.lennon@civicassets.org or at 510 506 2786.
