   Position Description

 

Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible to the Executive Director for managing the daily financial tasks of the EOD Warrior Foundation (EODWF).  

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions 

  • Plans, directs, coordinates and controls all accounting operational functions.

  • Manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of subsidiary and consolidated business results. 

  • Facilitate accounting closes and prepares internal and external financial statements on a timely basis. Help develop and generate various financial reports to analyze financial results and understand and address business issues

  • Follows (and updates when necessary) policies and procedures to assure accurate and timely receipt, payment and recording of financial transactions and application of and adherence to GAAP

  • Maintains a system of internal controls to protect company assets. Regularly evaluates accounting and internal control systems

  • Prepares all necessary documents to file Income Tax Form 990 and cost reports for the organization correctly and on time

  • Assesses current accounting operations in light of current best practices and offers recommendations for improvement and implementation of new processes

  • Prepare and review monthly and year-end financial statements and coordinate activities for external auditors

  • Expert level user of company’s accounting information system and reconciles information from other systems (i.e. payroll) and sources back to the general ledger

  • Provides management with analysis and information vital to the decision-making process. Compiles, reviews and projects financial information related to the organization’s operations. 

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting information system and databases as needed. Researches potential solutions. 

  • Review and process payroll

  • Remit federal and state payroll taxes for employees and the organizations

  • Remit state sales taxes 

  • Review monthly reconciliations on bank and investment accounts

  • Review and prepare 1099 forms for applicable vendors, and maintain vendor files

  • Oversee all payables

  • Maintain and update donor database, including reviewing batch entries and posting batches

  • Import all batch information into QuickBooks

  • Responsible for obtaining and entering all new hire paperwork

  • Set up new employees in QuickBooks and Ebility Time tracker softwares

  • Verify cash receipts and bank deposits

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

  • CPA or CMA designation

  • 5+ years of relevant nonprofit experience

  • Knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

  • Requires minimal supervision and is self-directed

  • Demonstrated use of strong judgment and quality decision-making, incorporating data, analytical skills, and the wisdom of experience

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting and payroll systems as applicable. Strong aptitude with computing systems, organizational skills and business/accounting experience used to promote accuracy and efficiency

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend all types of written materials, strong public presentation skills

  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its integrity

  • Knowledge of Quickbooks, Ebillity, TimeTracker

  • Knowledge of Donor Perfect 

 

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the Accountantis regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear. The position requires extensive computer use so the employee must have sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Travel 

The Accountant will be asked to travel for events related to the EOD Warrior Foundation, trainings, or other items identified by the Executive Director to maintain proficiency in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.



Work Environment

The work environment is in the Niceville, FL office. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Reasonable accommodations in the work environment may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

Capabilities / Qualities Required

  • The Accountant will have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment is required.

  • The Accountant has a solid foundation in computer skills to include proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, QuickBooks, and Donor Perfect.

  • The Accountant is a problem solver versus problem identifier.

  • Team builder and team player.  This person works well with other members of the organization.
