Bottling Day 2015

On April 11th 2015 my daughters and I attended the 4th annual Warriors Helping Warriors. Warriors Helping Warriors is a fundraiser for the EOD Warrior Foundation hosted by Leon and Cindy Tackitt at their Vineyard near beautiful Paso Robles, California. There is a lot of work that goes into this event by Leon and Cindy as well as some of the attendees. Many of the attendees double as volunteers to help Leon and Cindy set up, tear down and under the direction of the Tackitt's, ensure that the day runs smoothly.  These volunteers are local friends, retired EOD techs and their families, Gold Star families, EOD Warrior Foundation board members, etc.

While the adults took turns on the bottling line; filling, corking, labeling and sealing the wine bottles, there are many other activities to take part in. We listened to a great local band play cover songs and sang along. We could have our picture taken in the photo booth, shoot skeet or race robots. I purchased a few tickets for raffle prizes that included wine baskets from EOD Cellars or Tackitt Family Vineyards as well as other local wineries. There were silent auction items to bid on as well, a few of those included 2 night says in the local area, a one of a kind EOD wine box containing all 6 bottles of the EOD Cellars line and beautiful flattened and embellished EOD Cellars wine bottles. If you worked up an appetite you could have a pizza topped to your liking and cooked before your eyes in Leon’s pizza oven. We shared 2 small pizzas, a chicken and artichoke pizza with pesto sauce instead of red sauce and a prosciutto with mushrooms and olives.

This was our second year attending this event. Lilly, Gwyneth and I have looked forward to this year’s Warriors Helping Warriors event since the drive home last year. Lilly and Gwyneth’s work this year included cutting up some of the pizza toppings, preparing the snack table and selling raffle tickets. They enjoyed the opportunity to help Leon and Cindy whom they see working so hard to help the EOD Warrior Foundation in their vision of providing ongoing support to those in need within the EOD community.  This year’s fundraising amount was amazing and wouldn’t be possible without the generosity, hospitality and hard work of Leon and Cindy.  I think Gwyneth summed it up best, “They don’t have to (host Warriors Helping Warriors), but they like to. They raise lots of money for the foundation, and that’s good!”
